About Tara Leigh
Hello and Welcome! I’m Tara, a professional oil painter. My work bridges the gap between classical technique and contemporary pop culture. With twenty years of experience with oil painting, I approach the canvas with both technical mastery and a profound sense of wonder. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Buffalo State College, and having studied under some incredible professors, I draw upon a rigorous foundation to define my artistic practice.
In the early years of my career, I sought a conventional niche, creating art I believed others wanted to see. Then in 2020, I experienced a breakthrough that redirected my life and career. I decided to dedicate my practice entirely to the art that brings me genuine happiness. This liberation allowed me to paint the fun, the familiar, and the fantastic.
My style is a vibrant fusion of contrasting influences. I pair the electric colors of Pop Art and the bold experimentation of modernism with the crystal clear luminescence of the Old Masters. This synthesis results in a rich body of work that makes the ordinary extraordinary. My subjects range from whimsical depictions of animals and food to Star Wars figures.
Working primarily in an alla prima style, I apply expressive brushwork and textured surfaces that invite tactile engagement. Every stroke serves to heighten the emotional resonance of the piece, transforming familiar icons and everyday items into sophisticated statements.
When not in the studio, my husband and I embrace a nomadic lifestyle, traveling the country in our custom van and Airstream trailer with our aussie doodle, Banksy. Traveling across diverse landscapes fuels my inspiration, while my beloved cats await my return to New York. Whether I’m hiking through the wilderness or playing disc golf between shows, these experiences continually inform my creative perspective.
My art is a celebration of joy, designed to bring both laughter and elegant refinement into your home.
